    **Codes for X2:  Mi = missing- this calculates as a 0 in their overall average
                               Ex = excused- for a very specific reason, the student was excused from the 
                                                     item.  This is more common for homeworks, i.e. a homework pass
                                                    was used.
                               R = received- the item has been received, but not yet graded.  This does not
                                                    affect their overall average
                               NMT = needs more time- the student has started the work, but not yet finished.
                                                                      This does not affect their overall average.
