Music, Lyrics, Guitar, Vocals: M. Whiman
I am not a guitar player. The vast majority of my efforts in learning music has been spent on bass and violin in the past. That was up until this winter. As I joined a new band and became more focused on writing my own songs I found it more and more necessary to learn guitar in order to put my ideas into an actual song. I started playing around with my brother's old, beat up, classical guitar last December and taught myself how to play chords. Return was one of the first songs I wrote on the guitar way back in early January, on one of those late nights where I couldn't sleep. It tells the story of a naive boy waiting for a love that he knows he'll never have. Though the song was completed back in January, I had stopped playing it and almost forgot about it until it was brought up that there were no love songs in our musical collection. Though I had no intention of singing and playing guitar on the album I was persuaded by both my teachers and friends. With some help from Mr. Hinkle to fix the melody line I was ready to record, but was not able to do so until the last day, with five minutes left. I made a live recording of the song in one take, which is the song on this website currently. While I feel I could've done better with more time I am happy that this song is included on the album. Please don't mind my shaky singing voice... -Matt Whiman |
