The Connection The Weekly Newsletter of IACS-MS
From the Principal
February 5, 2010
Dear IACS Middle School Families:
Last night we had the second of our two enrollment events for new families. Both events were very successful, and I would like to thank all of the students and families who assisted with the sessions.
As we prepare for February Vacation, we will once again be displaying all of our lost and found items in the Commons. Please stop in to see if some of the many unclaimed items belong to your student. Any items that are not claimed before vacation will be donated over the vacation.
In this cold weather that we have been having, it is understandable that everyone wants to get through the afternoon pick-up process as quickly as possible. We strive to be both quick and safe in our dismissal procedures. Please help us do this by following the directions of staff members who are directing traffic. Also, please use the middle school side if you have middle school students. The high school dismissal side is for high school students or for carpools that include both middle and high school students.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Kathleen Seward

Our school library is looking to grow! We would like to enhance its middle school collection with the addition of some high-quality magazine subscriptions. Magazines are a great way to encourage all students to read outside of school. We have chosen some age-appropriate magazines such as Sports Illustrated Kids and Discovery Girls, and stored them in a wish list on Amazon.com. If you would like to donate a subscription or related supplies (magazine covers etc.), all you have to do is open the link below in your browser. It will take you directly to our magazine wish list. From there, you can make an Amazon.com purchase. The items will automatically get delivered to the school. How easy is that?! We also have some other wish list’s set up for biographies and non-fiction titles we would like as well. You can access our other wish lists from links on the left side of the magazine wish list page. If you have any questions, please contact Carol Gallagher (Library Volunteer) at IACSSchoolLibrary@gmail.com Thanks for supporting our library!

WANTED: TAX PREPARER. The IACA (school community association) is looking for a professional tax preparer to work with them on tax issues. This does not require attendance at monthly meetings--just an occasional consultation and an annual tax preparation. This year's taxes have already been prepared so the first preparation would be next year. The fiscal year runs from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31. This is a great opportunity for a parent or other community member to fill their yearly volunteer hours. Contact Gwen Sandilands at gsandilands@comcast.net if you are interested.

Box TopsLet the Games BEGIN! Our Box Tops HOME BASE for the HOLIDAYS collection drive is complete – and Homebase Ghandi was way ahead of the pack! A special treat is coming their way soon.
HOWEVER – We understand that several large submissions did not make it into that contest. We’re hoping to track down those entries and get the credit in for our NEW contest – BOX TOPS OLYMPICS. Each homebase will receive a Bronze medal for 10 Box Tops; a Silver medal for 20 Box Tops or a Gold Medal for 30 Box Tops. Look for weekly updates on where your home base stands.
ALSO – we realize that the collection box has been difficult to find at times – and sometimes goes missing all-together. A new temporary box has been placed on the window sill in the Cafeteria and we’re working on building a “permanent” box to attach to the wall – so it should stay put! Thanks for your understanding as we continue to work out these issues.
We collect Box Tops year round, but we have two dates a year that submissions are required to be included in our next check. The next submission deadline is February 26th – so we really need you to clear out those drawers and get your entries in so we can convert all those little chips of cardboard into CASH!
Thanks for your support! Your Box Tops coordinator Kate Conran 978-244-1244
